THE SPICE COAST

Cooking From Kerala — Where the Spice Trade Began

Most Indian restaurants in Ireland cook in a broadly North Indian style. Ours goes further. Head Chef Manoj Varavumkal comes from Kerala, India’s south-western spice coast — the land of coconut groves, fresh curry leaves, mustard seed and seafood.

You’ll taste the difference in dishes most menus don’t have: our Goan Fish Curry finished with coconut milk, King Prawn Mango Curry — a classic Kerala pairing of sweet and spice — and Madras dishes tempered the southern way with curry leaves, mustard seed and a squeeze of lemon. This is regional Indian cooking, not a generic curry house menu.

From Mild to Fiery: A Guide to Our Curries

Not sure what to order? Here’s our menu from gentlest to hottest — there’s a perfect dish at every level.

🌶 Korma (Mild)
Creamy almond, coconut and cashew sauce. The gateway curry, loved by kids and spice-shy diners.

🌶 Butter Masala (Mild)
Tandoori chicken in silky tomato-cashew gravy. Our most-ordered dish for a reason.

🌶🌶 Curry & Tikka Masala (Medium)
The classics — balanced, aromatic and full of flavour.

🌶🌶 Bhuna & Rogan Josh (Medium)
Richer, deeper tomato-based sauces with ginger and fresh coriander.

🌶🌶🌶 Jalfrezi (Medium-Hot)
Ginger, garlic and mixed peppers with real warmth.

🌶🌶🌶 Madras (Medium-Hot)
Southern-style with curry leaves, mustard seed and lemon.

🌶🌶🌶🌶 Vindaloo (Hot)
Ginger, garlic and fresh chilli. For those who mean it.

Every curry comes in chicken, beef, lamb, king prawn or vegetable versions — see the full menu for prices.

Tandoor, Biryani and Breads

From the Tandoor

Chicken tikka and tandoori chicken marinated overnight, cooked at ferocious heat for char and tenderness.

Biryani

Basmati rice layered with your choice of meat, served the traditional way with curry sauce, poppadoms and cooling raita.

Fresh Naan

Plain, garlic, peshwari, cheesy, keema and more — baked to order, made for scooping up every last drop of sauce.

Vegetarian, Gluten-Free and Allergy-Friendly

Indian cuisine is one of the world’s great vegetarian traditions, and ours honours it — from Paneer Mattar Masala to vegetable versions of every curry, plus sides like Aloo Saag and Aloo Gopi. Every dish on our menu carries allergen codes, several dishes are naturally gluten-free (our Onion Bhajis among them), and the kitchen is always happy to advise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Holy Grail different from other Indian restaurants in Wexford?

Our head chef’s background — Kerala-born, trained with the Taj hotel group, cooking in Ireland since 2001 — and a menu with genuine South Indian regional dishes alongside the classics. We’ve been on South Main Street since 2014.

What’s the best dish for someone new to Indian food?

Start with Chicken Korma or Butter Masala — mild, creamy and universally loved — with pilau rice and a garlic naan. From there, work up the heat ladder above.

Do you have vegetarian Indian dishes?

Plenty — vegetable versions of every curry, paneer dishes, vegetable biryani and vegetarian sides and starters.

How spicy is a Madras compared to a Vindaloo?

Madras is medium-hot with a southern-style tang from curry leaves and lemon; Vindaloo is our hottest, built on fresh chilli, ginger and garlic. If you’re between them, Jalfrezi is the middle path.

Can I get your Indian food as takeaway?
